When selecting a modular arm, corner group or L-shaped sofa, understanding whether you need a Left-Hand Facing (LHF) or Right-Hand Facing (RHF) option is essential to ensure the sofa fits seamlessly into a room and works with the layout of a space.

The terms LHF and RHF refer to the orientation of the longer or extended section of the sofa when looking directly at it from the front. To make this decision easier, understanding how to distinguish between the two orientations and matching them to your room’s design is key. The following steps will help you confidently make the right choice:

1. Use the Diagrams to Identify LHF vs RHF

  • Stand directly in front of the sofa (as shown in the diagrams). The orientation of the extended section will tell you if it’s an LHF or RHF sofa.
  • If the extended section of the sofa is positioned on the left side as you face it, you are looking at an LHF configuration. This means the longer section extends out to the left.
  • If the extended section of the sofa is positioned on the right side as you face it, the sofa is RHF. The longer section will be on the right side.

2. Match the Diagrams to Your Space

  • Once you understand how to identify the LHF and RHF configurations, the next step is to evaluate your room and its layout. Consider where you plan to place the sofa and how it will interact with other furniture and room features like walls, windows, and doors.
  • Compare the orientation in the diagrams to your layout to ensure the best fit.

3. Double-Check Before Ordering

  • Before finalising your order, it’s important to confirm that you’ve chosen the right sofa configuration for your space. Taking a moment to double-check will help avoid any mistakes and ensure that your sofa fits perfectly in the space you’ve planned for it.

By using these simple steps, you can confidently choose the perfect sofa configuration that fits your room and style needs. The sofa is often the focal point of a living room or lounge area. Getting the orientation right can impact both the aesthetic of your space and its functionality. Whether you’re designing a cosy corner or creating an open, flowing seating area, the right sofa configuration not only enhances comfort but also optimises your space for both style and usability.
